First, there are BILLIONS of music instruction videos on YouTube. As far as we’re concerned: “Peruse ’em and use ’em.” When it comes to learning an instrument, everybody should be able to operate at their own level of motivation and ability. YouTube is a great place for artists of all levels to pick up ideas and approaches to an instrument.
However, YouTube can also be a pretty frustrating place to get your own personal questions answered or find (and cross) that bridge into the direction you want to take with your playing. How do we get the music in your head into your instrument?
We start with you learning the songs you enjoy.
After all, that’s how you got interested in music in the first place, right?
So, whether it’s Taylor Swift, Metallica, Olivia Rodrigo, Pantera, Billy Joel, The Beatles, Green Day, Queen, Lana Del Rey – they can all be played on bass, guitar, piano, ukulele – those are the artists and songs we start with.
And, look, if you’re a big fan of Brahms or Beethoven, we can get you on your way with a little Bach and Mozart, no worries.
In sum, we go where you go. If you enjoy it, you’ll practice on your own. If you absolutely love it, you’ll dedicate hours to it every day.
